Bookmarked 05/07/2010: Fuji F70EXR settings

  • So here is the way to shoot the F70EXR in its simplest presentation. One thing: Set your LCD brightness down a click or two. That usually keeps things looking real. You will need to zoom in now and again to confirm exposure in critical areas because there is no help from Fuji firmware.

Sometimes you will see a link to a site, or news item on one site, think “oh that’s nice must check it out”. The you find out that several more of your daily sites/feeds/newsletters all mention it.
I dont usually jump on bandwagons but this deserves it :D

Each picked a different entry, here’s my choice

Great photo idea: blipfoto

I’m about to start a photoblog at blipfoto

This is a very slick photoblog site with the constraint that it only allows one photo a day, and it has to be from that day. This is an interesting challenge, which forces one to maybe look at the same things in a different way to keep taking a picture day after day (although you dont have to have one every day).

Like every blog, some people use it as a photo diary, some as a way to allow far away friends to keep in touch, and others are pure art smile

After a year and a half, finally, I treat myself

In October 2006, when my photography kit got stolen the first time, I wrote about wanting the K10D(or GX-10).
I even bought a film pentax camera and several zoom and prime lenses, since they would be reusable. That got stolen again, but I stuck with the plan. Snatched another MZ-M off ebay, and just one lens.

But FINALLY, in January 2008, I went out and bought a Samsung GX-10. A year and a few months later it was still a great camera and I still wanted it so I could finally justify doing it.

Expect more pictures soon!

Wildlife photographer of the year

Before Christmas, I went to the new Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition

My favorite this year is a picture of a corn bunting (it’s a bird) singing on a cold day. The bird is adorable, but you can see the puffs of its breath in the cold air, as if the notes were flying off… And there’s a lovely spiderweb to round up the picture.

I couldn’t find a website for the photographer, although his pictures of birds appear here and there over the net.

There were a few more film cameras again than last year (mostly in macro and underwater), and also more “prosumer” cameras (i.e >£1000 kit). The cameras were also on average older, which is because of course pros are not susceptible to fall for the pixel inflation.

The other thing that strikes me every time is how these images are always a mixture of huge preparation and patience, and then a bit of luck… I don’t think I am made for that kind of nature photography.
